Came by here the other night to try the clam chowder in the bread bowl...it was pretty good, but the clams were a little overcooked and tough, but not bad. I want to come back and try their fish and chips. They have a very cute patio!

We went here after spending practically a whole day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. I suggest going here after that instead of paying the prices inside lol. I got the garlic cheese clam chowder bowl and holy chipotle was it a god send. Bread bowl alone is crack, but turning the bread lid into garlic bread is supreme opioid usage. For the record, I do not condone drug usage lol... The garlic bread was cheesy and the clam chowder was super fulfilling for the soul. Every scoop to the last drop, there was something in there and the heat of the soup would soften the bowl where you could scrape off the bread easily. That was one of the best clam chowder bread bowls I've had because of the garlic bread lid and how the bread would scrape off easily once you get to it. Idk - I usually get others and they'd be hard and chewy. The service was immaculate and very attentive to our needs. Inside is cool - seaside restaurant vibes, nothing to crazy and there is outside seating too. It was a cool overcast day- and we wouldn't have minded sitting outside if it was the only option. Eating out in the brisk with some soup just also hits differently too. If you don't wana go to Cannery Row - I suggest this spot! I haven't gone around Cannery Row much tho but I like this nearby spot to the aquarium to get my clam chowder fix.

I came here for lunch. I was hoping to just get clam chowder. I ended up getting a half sandwich. I got a dungeness crab salad sandwich, with clam chowder, and fries. The service was great. The food was delicious. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone. There is seating outside and inside.

Wow the business itself is unsuspecting but the food delivered!! The restaurant seems kindof old and run down we opted to sit outside. Had the clam chowder bread bowl where they turn the top of the bread into garlic cheese bread. Of course it was delish!! Also shared an order of the fish n chips. The fish was all delicate white meat. It came with one big piece with a side of fried and tartar sauce.

Post-Monterey Bay Aquarium Adventure; my friends and I were ready to devour seafood cornucopia -- Vivolo's was the perfect place for us. Just a two blocks uphill from the aquarium, we got to Vivolo's within an 8 minute walk. The place has a classic seafood family diner vibe with some fun art on the walls. Service was quick to sit us down and take our order. Maybe it's because we were famished from a Point Lobos hike and aquarium adventure, but this food hit so hard. The crispy calamari came out so fast and was gone just as fast with the tangy cocktail sauce. The clam chowder was so rich and the oily garlic bread let us guzzle it down so fast. Fish and chips were a classic - just wish there was another fish piece ( it only came with two pieces!). The shrimp scampi came with a separate pasta, we had thought it was a long noodle that was mixed in but I'm guessing that was more so for the pasta part of the menu. The squash and veggie that came with the scampi was delicious though and the side pasta was flavored nicely. All in all - it was great and I'd for sure recommend this place to friends in the area!

My review is long overdue as we went in July. We were visiting and found this place online with the delicious looking food so we had to try it. Our server was Andrew and he was incredible! Very attentive! Constantly checking on us and making sure we had everything we needed. Now the food, wow! I can honestly say that was the best food we had during our 1 week vacation traveling all over the place in multiple cities. My husband got the clam chowder with the cheese bowl and it was incredible, the cheese bread was out of this works. I got the fish and chips and it was so crispy and delicious. The fish was not dry at all and had such a good flavor. I got my daughter a cheesy, buttery pasta and she couldn't stop eating it. Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. Great food and excellent service. If we are ever around again we will most definitely be stopping by.

Was the final dinner during short trip to Monterey during spring break. Arrived close to 7pm, so was worried about the closing time being 8pm. Restaurant wasn't crowded, so was able to get seated right away. First thing that had me worried was the restaurant had some bathroom like odor inside. Thought about going outside, but too cold and sun setting. Since this was a chowder I had to try, I sucked up the odor and poured over the menu. Seemed simple enough, I want fish and the entrees come with cup of their famous chowder. Sand Dabs and the Fish (rock cod) Tacos. They were out of sand dabs... Uh oh, that's already strike 2... Guess no choice, try the Rock Cod and the Fish Tacos, all in on rock cod! - Clam chowder = was a bit worried coming closer to closing time, but all the doubts and strikes disappeared when started eating it. Excellent! Good strong flavor and the perfect clam chew! Easily the best chowder had in Monterey, and probably one of the best clam chowder I've ever had. Just awesome. - Fish tacos = what a flavor burst, wow! The pickles on the side were perfect to munch on in between bites of the delicious taco. - Rock Cod = lemon butter sauce was SO flavorful, wow! Fresh fish, excellent plate! Not even sure what the red green veggie side that came with middle of the plate was, but even that was awesome too!!! It was so good, we had to order ANOTHER Rock Cod platter to enjoy it all over again, the chowder, the fish, that magical side red/green veggies. This went from a near strikeout to an absolute homerun for me! Don't let the initial impressions sway you. Honestly the entrees were not that visually appealing, but everything was just simply excellent! We had a visually appealing meal on the first dinner in Monterey at a waterfront restaurant. Food was mediocre and overprice. This is where the locals come to eat, I am sure of it! Wish I could eat here again...
